Sundance Film Festival: Movies Creating Buzz

Sundance Film Festival kicked off today in Park City, Utah.  Most of the films premiering at the festival are from first-time directors or independent film makers.  It's also a place for many of next year's Oscar worthy films premiere.  So keep your eyes out for some of the buzz-worth films and remember them this time next year.

Here are some of the films that are getting the biggest buzz this year.

Paul Rudd in My Idiot Brother

My Idiot Brother- The comedy stars Paul Rudd as an organic gardener who was sent to jail for selling weed to a cop.  Upon release, he is forced to live with each of his three sisters - played by Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, and Zooey Deschanel. It's defiintely creating buzz and both Elizabeth Banks and Paul Rudd are at Sundance to promote it.

Cedar Rapids- This comedy, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (obviously) centers on a man (Ed Helms) who finds himself in the city for an insurance convention, where he meets some interesting characters.  Anne Heche, Sigourney Weaver, and John C. Reilly also star.

The Details- Another comedy, this one a little bit darker, co-starring Elizabeth Banks (again), Tobey Maguire, Laura Linney, and Ray Liotta.  This comedy centers on a group of hungry raccoons that discover worms living in a couple's backyard.  The result of this raccoon problem is a little strange; domestic tension, infidelity, organ donation, and murder.   Sounds very intriguing and something worth checking out simply for an explanation.

Red State- Directed by Kevin Smith, Red State has already received a lot of press.  It is a horror-thriller about religious fanaticism, and you know anything on that topic will be intriguing.

Margin Call- A drama set during the 2008 financial crisis.  The film stars Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, and Stanley Tucci.  Quire the emsemble cast and one that will prove both interesting and completely relevant.

The Son of No One -Al Pacino stars in this drama about two men who commit murder as young boys.  But that secret threatens to destroy his life when he returns to his hometown.  The film also stars Juliet Binoche and Tatum Channing.

These are just a few of the many films creating buzz in Utah - more than 100 films will premiere at the 10 day festival.

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Blue Paint in X-Men

Jennifer Lawrence, star ofWinter's Bone, plays Mystique in the new prequelX-Men: First Class.  The role, orginally portrayed by Rebecca Romijn, required the actress to spend more than two months in full-body blue makeup.

But how did the young actress feel about having people all up in her business everyday?

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique

Lawrence recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about being naked on set all day long.

"Nothing’s sacred anymore,"Lawrence told the mag."Those girls and I got so close. They were painting me naked every day for months. It was kind of like going to a really bizarre sleepover."

The article also reveals Fox has Lawrence down for two sequels ifFirst Classdoes well.

In otherX-Men: First Classnews, director Matthew Vaughn insiststhis image released yesterdaywas not authorized to appear online. Yet, ComingSoon.net claims they know for a fact 20th Century Fox distributed the imageofficiallytoYahoo!,MSN,MoviefoneandIGNto post along along with cast interviews.

Vaughn told/Film,"I freaked out on them yesterday. I don't know where the hell that came from. I don't think it's a Fox image. It's not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the f**k is this s**t, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It's like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn't reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like 'Jesus Christ'..."

Christian Bale Talks The Dark Knight Rises

Christian Bale is admitting to Empire thatThe Dark Knight Riseswillprobablybe his last Batman movie.  And that's because director Christopher Nolan says it will be HIS last Batman.

"All I know is the likelihood that this will be the last one,"Bale told Empire."Well, I wouldn't say definitely. If Chris goes, 'Hey, I've got another story I think could be interesting,' then yeah, great, I'd go do that. I always assumed it would be three, but I could be wrong. I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but I don't feel any pressure."

Eyeing the Bat Suit

Nolan has previously said that this latest installment in the series will be his last.  But who knows, with Bale saying he's open to another one, maybe the two will decide to work together again.

The Dark Knight Rises will open in theaters on July 20, 2012.

Red Sequel In The Works

The flick about some old spies getting together to figure out why they are on the government hit list is getting a sequel.  Yes, that's rightRedis in the works to come back for more.

According to Collider, Summit has hired original screenwriters Jon and Eric Hoeber to start working on a new script.  Although a lot still has to happen for the movie to make it onto the big screen, but the wheels are turning.

Mirren and Malkovich Load Up

Filmmakers will also have to get Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and John Makovich to sign on for the sequel.  Sounds like they still have a lot of work to do.

Would you be interested in seeing a sequel to the spy thriller?

Keira Knightley To Replace Marion Cotillard in Cosmopolis?

It looks like David Cronenberg'sCosmopolisis set to undergo more changes to its cast.  FirstRobert Pattison replaced Colin Farrel, now it looks like Keira Knightley is set to replace Marion Cotillard.

It would make a little more sense to have Knightley appears opposite Pattinson, considering the age difference.  Cotillard also just announced her pregnancy, so it might be a little hard for her to star in the movie with a growing belly.

The production company, Alfama Films, is now listing Keira Knightley as part of the cast and there is only one female lead so it appears Knightley is it, although there hasn't been any confirmation from Knightley's camp.

British Actress Keira Knightley

Cosmopolisfeatures 24 hours in the life of billionaire Eric Packer (now played by Pattinson) as he loses his fortune through a series of events in a single day.  Interesting concept.

The film is set to start shooting in May.

Are you excited about the new casting?  Or would you have rather seen an older duo play the lead roles?

No Strings Atttached vs. Friends With Benefits: What's The Difference?

No Strings Attachedis out this weekend - and don't get us wrong, we're excited to see it, but we also can't help but notice how similar the flick is to another sex-driven comedy,Friends With Benefits

So will you be seeing the same movie twice whenFriends with Benefitscomes out later this year?

Mila and JT

There's definitely a lot of intertwining going on between the two movies.  We've done a little digging and here's what we've uncovered...

No Strings Attached Poster

They're pretty much the same.

Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher star inNo Strings Attachedabout two friends who decide to embark on a relationship purely based on sex.

Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake star inFriends with Benefitsabout two friends who decide to embark on a relationship purely based on sex.

Here are few weird incestuous facts just for fun:

  • Portman and Kunis starred inBlack Swantogether (think they talked about their next films on the set?)
  • Kunis and Kutcher starred inThat 70's Showtogether where they played two characters in a relationship.
  • Justin Timberlake spoofed Ashton Kutcher when he hosted Saturday Night Live.

So, which one will be better?

No Strings Attachedis directed by veteran filmmaker Ivan Reitman who knows his comedies.  He producedAnimal House! Ashton Kutcher is the rom com king and he does well in those kinds of role.  Natalie Portman is so in-demand and proved her acting chops inBlack Swan.

Friends with Benefitsis directed and co-written by Will Gluck fromEasy A- pretty funny flick!  Justin Timberlake can definitely do comedy - have you seen him on Saturday night live? And Mila Kunis is totally cute and always appealing in her roles.

Take a look at the trailers and decide for yourself.  Warning the trailers contain content not appropriate for all audiences.

Reel Movie News'Golden Globe 2011 Predictions: Round 2

Welcome to Round 2 of Reel Movie News' Golden Globes predictions.  Today we have predictions in three more of the major movie categories.  Then, it's your turn!  You tell us who you think will take home the gold in the major categories.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE

  1. Amy Adams -The Fighter
  2. Helena Bonham Carter -The King's Speech
  3. Mila Kunis -Black Swan
  4. Melissa Leo -The Fighter
  5. Jackie Weaver -Animal Kingdom

Our Prediction: Melissa Leo - The Fighter

Melissa Leo As Overbearing Mother

This one is totally based on the buzz she's been getting around her role as Mark Wahlberg's overbearing mother in the drama.  Amy Adams also did an amazing job in the film, and it's her third time being nominated without a win, but we think the big kudos are going to go to Leo this year.

Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Mila Kunis - Black Swan
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE

  1. Christian Bale -The Fighter
  2. Michael Douglas -Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
  3. Andrew Garfield -The Social Network
  4. Jeremy Renner -The Town
  5. Geoffrey Rush -The King's Speech

Our Prediction: Christian Bale - The Fighter

    Christian Bale in The Fighter

Christian Bale did so much to prepare for this role, losing tons of weight and researching the character to understand how his mind works; but it was really his performance that makes him the one to beat in this category.  His dedication to the mannerisms and mindset of drug addicted Dickie really shows in his performance. Although the other actors in this category did a good job, no one else really comes close to Bale's outstanding performance this year.

Michael Douglas - Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
    Jeremy Renner - The Town
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

Our Prediction: David Fincher - The Social Network

    Saverin and Zuckerberg in Court

There are a few categories this year that seem to be a given with the buzz surrounding the films.  We might be surprised, but I think this is one of those categories. David Fincher has been on top during this year's award season and that isn't going to slow down with the Golden Globes. Although Aronofsky'sBlack Swanis a close second and is also getting a lot of buzz, Fincher is going to take home the gold this year.

Tron Dominates Bears, Lions and Mark Whalberg

As expected,Tron Legacyopened at #1 with $43.6 million, far short of what last year's long-awaited science fiction adventure,Avatar, brought right around the same time. While the opening isn't exactly stellar, Disney hopes that the numbers will gain steam over the holidays. Mediocre reviews might not help, but everyone is raving about the visual effects and the soundtrack, so that may be enough to get it where it needs to be.

    Take Me Home Tonight Poster

As the summer of 1988 winds down, three friends on the verge of adulthood attend an out-of-control party in celebration of their last night of unbridled youth. Starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler and Teresa Palmer, Take Me Home Tonight is a raunchy, romantic and ultimately touching blast from the past set to an awesome soundtrack of timeless rock and hip-hop hits. Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams. With his cynical twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) and best friend Barry (Dan Fogler), Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening. From stealing a car to a marriage proposal to an indescribable, no-holds-barred dance-off, these friends share experiences that will change the course of their lives on one unforgettable night in the Go-Go’80s.
